The Brief

Commissioned by Right Up Our Street to provide technical production management and installation of the largest LED screen possible inside Doncaster Minster to showcase Machine Hallucinations : Large Nature Model from the esteemed artist Refik Anadol.

Installing such a large structure into a heritage building posed some queries, height inside the minster wasn’t an issue, but to construct such a large format screen we would need a tall, secure rigging structure, the weight of this plus the screen panels themselves would be incredibly heavy. Could the flooring inside this historic building take it?

We pulled together a team of skilled technicians and partners to collaborate with us in planning and installing this mighty project. First up a ground penetrating scan of the the minster floor and sign off that it could in fact take the 10 ton structure we planned to build, followed by weeks of planning and preparation we were onto the install, rigging the structure to hang an 11.5m x 6.5m LED screen. The panels were secured one by one, tested and switched on ready for Anadol’s team to arrive from LA.

With the artwork loaded, using Millumin software ran from a Mac Ultra it was time to set up the PA system and supporting multiple 90″ screens that were used in education areas around the venue.

After three days of install we delivered the largest LED screen possible into Doncaster Minster, a proud day to say the least. Watch the video below to hear more about the project and see the installation come to life…
